In 2000, Janine won a special award from the Dog Writers Association of America for excellence in online feature writing for "Mighty Mutts Tackles a Mighty Big Problem," a story she wrote for Pets.com about a Brooklyn-based
animal rescue organization.
Her column for for ThePoop.com was a finalist for a Maxwell Medallion from the DWAA in 2001.
The column she wrote for ThePoop.com about the death of her poodle, Scout, was a finalist for the prestigious Merial Human-Animal Bond special award from the Dog Writers Association in 2002. That article was called Saying Goodbye."
